Everybody knows and has probably debated Kobe Bryant’s two-year, $48.5 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers. It reportedly made him the highest paid player in the league at the age of 36. Well when you account for taxes and other fees players have to pay it turns out there’s someone else who makes more than him, and THAT person is actually considered to have the worst and most overpaid contract.
You guessed it…
It’s Iso Joe, Joe Johnson, the hundred million dollar man. His six-year, $123.7 million contract extension he signed with the Atlanta Hawks has long been deemed a massive overpayment and the worst current contract in the league. In fact he was considered untradeable but the Hawks were able to send him to Brooklyn.
Also topping the list is someone who also has a nuisance of a contract, Amare Stoudemire. Sports Illustrated compiled the list by subtracting agent fees, union dues, jock taxes as well as local taxes unique to each state the players reside in; you can read the full breakdown on their website.
