Minnesota Vikings quarterback Adrian Peterson is facing a felony count of reckless or negligent injury to a child stemming from a whipping incident that left bruises and wounds on much of his 4-year-old son. At first Peterson was fighting the case but now he and his representatives are in talks to reach a plea agreement that could be done as soon as Tuesday.
While the plea agreement can help him escape jail time, it doesn’t help him get back on the field. In fact it could make things worse if he admits guilt in what some see as brutally beating his son.
With the numerous domestic violence cases recently, most notably Ray Rice, commissioner Roger Goodell is enforcing much tougher penalties. Once this case is closed, it’ll be interesting to see what team or league punishment is given to Peterson.
In addition to a potential plea deal, what will be at issue Tuesday is the bond revocation prosecutors have called for in light of Peterson’s admission that he smoked marijuana before his initial court appearance in September.
