On Nov. 5, 2003, James played his fourth NBA game – but first at home – against the Nuggets with friend and fellow rookie Anthony. So James was asked about facing his friend’s Knicks squad in the Cavaliers’ season opener Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena.
“That’s how it should be. When we first started our careers, we played each other opening night here and it’s how it should be, me seeing a great friend of mine and competing against him when both of us made a decision that we thought was best for ourselves,” James said Wednesday. “So it’s always great to see him.”
Neither current All-Star wowed the world in their first head-to-head. Anthony won that first matchup as Denver took a 93-89 victory. Anthony shot 6-of-17 and scored 14 points, while James scored seven points on 3-of-11 shooting.
