A man named David Van Vleet filed court papers in order to get personal information from exotic dancers so he could pray for them. Check out the video and read more on the story below!
David Van Vleet wanted to obtain the exotic dancers state entertainer licenses. Van Vleet says that he’s going to pray for the salvation of the dancers. He filed a public disclosure request for the information with the Pierce County Auditor’s Office last month.
Van Vleet told the federal judge that he wanted their information so he could pray for the dancers. He said, “I would pray for those dancers by name…I’m a Christian…we have a right to pray for people.” Pierce County Auditor Julie Anderson says that the office is required to release the licenses under the Public Records Act and she decided to let 125 license holders know that Van Vleet wanted their information. Anderson said, “Given the nature of the work performed by these people, I opted to give them a heads-up.”
That heads-up led a strip club manager and a dancer to sue Pierce County to block the release of their business licenses. A representative for the dancers Jenn Kaplan, stated “They have an enormous privacy interest and not disclosing their identity…many of them have suffered domestic abuse, many of them are trying to prevent people from knowing their whereabouts.” U.S. District Judge Ronald B. Leighton, blocked the release of the business licenses and names of the dancers, by saying the release of the information could be used to harass or threaten the dancers or strip club managers. Van Vleet was not happy by this and stated, “[The judge] essentially silenced seven million people in the state of Washington to protect 70 peoples’ so-called right to privacy who dance on a stage naked.”
