It seems like the NFL is handing out more and more fines; well it’s not just a feeling, it’s the truth. Due to illegal hits and suspensions, the NFL has already handed out more than twice the amount of what it did in 2013 ($10.5 million) and we are only going into week seven of the 2014 season.

You can thank a couple of players for a good chunk of that amount. According to Foxsports.com,Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington accounts for $3 million of that due to his season-long suspension. Indianapolis Colts linebacker Robert Mathis, who is out for the season with an injury, accounts for $1 million of that for his four-game suspension to start the season.
Then you have some heavy hits during game play itself. Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict was fined $25,000 just this week for illegally twisting the legs of Carolina Panthers players during tackles last Sunday. Denver Broncos tight end Julius Thomas was fined $8,268 for an illegal chop block on Cards defensive end Calais Campbell. Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Antonio Brown was fined for his karate-style kick to the face of Cleveland Browns punter Spencer Lanning in week one.
Then there is the fine for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. He was fined $10,000 for not wearing “Bose” headphones instead going with his usual “Beats By Dre”. He taped up the logo of those headphones this past week so as to avoid getting another fine.
