Jennifer Lopez used the Detail-produced “I Luh Ya Papi” as the lead single to her album A.K.A. earlier this year, while newcomer Tinashe was introduced to the world with her debut single “2 On,” but both ladies’ 2014 may have gone totally differently if this one studio session didn’t happen!
“It was intended for Aquarius and everything,” Tinashe revealed to FADER in a new interview. “Then Detail was in a session with J. Lo and he played her the track, because you know these producers sometimes, they’re like ‘Yo, lemme play you my hot sh*t!’ I guess she obviously really liked it, and she cut her version.”

From there, Detail let the California songstress know it was basically as good as Jen’s, and she rolled with the punches. The song, originally titled “I Luh Ya N*gga,” was changed to “Papi” for obvious reasons, and re-cut with Jen’s vocals. There’s no hard feelings, though!
“I wasn’t tripping on it too much,” Tinashe said. “I really roll with the punches. A lot of things happen for a reason. Timing always is perfect, even when you don’t think it is. I clearly wasn’t meant to have that song. Who knows, “2 On” might not have existed if I had it.”
She’s not listed on the song’s credits as a writer, so it’s likely she got a one-time pay-off for the record and kept it moving.
