Dr. Tom Frieden, head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said all those who treated Thomas Eric Duncan are potentially exposed. He also says the diagnosis shows there was a breach of safety protocol which is still yet to be determined. The health care worker wore gloves, mask, grown, and a shield when she cared for Duncan while he was in the hospital. She still tested positive for Ebola. Health officials are now monitoring almost 50 people who came in contact with Duncan.
Dr. David Lakey, commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services says, “We knew a second case could be a reality, and we’ve been preparing for this possibility…we are broadening our team in Dallas and working with extreme diligence to prevent further spread. Officials will investigate how the workers take off their protective gear as well. There are more than 370 health care workers in west Africa who have died or became sick since early this year.
