In what authorities are calling a murder-suicide, a Florida man shot and killed his daughter and six grandchildren Thursday afternoon in the small north-central Florida town of Bell.
CNN reports that Sheriff Robert Schultz of Gilchrist County identified the shooter as Don Spirit, 51, and the daughter as Sarah Spirit, 28.
Schultz told reporters that there were three boys and three girls, ranged in age from 3 months to 11 years old.
Spirit called 911 around 4 p.m., and the shot himself once the police arrived at the scene. Police found the bodies inside the home.
Schultz explains that his wasn’t the first time police responded to calls from the Spirit home, and that Don Spirit had a criminal history.
