With Chris Brown’s much anticipated album finally hitting stores Tuesday, September 16, the singer reveals the meaning behind the album title “X”, and how “Loyal” was a big hit behind bars too.
We all know how BIG “Loyal” got in such a short time. We’ll not only was the song a big hit on the outside, it apparently was just as big behind bars as well.
Breezy reveals to MTV News’ Sway that the guards played the song inside the correctional facility.
[“They were] playing it over the speakers when I was locked up,” Breezy explained to MTV News. “You know how they’d call you like, ‘Brown you’ve got a visitor’ — they would play the music and I [thought]…this is funny.”
CB also got some encouraging news to lift his spirits, learning that “Loyal” had hit #1 on the charts.
“I got a call from my management team [saying] ‘Loyal’ is number one, and that’s the best feeling in the world, especially when you’re in a dark, terrible place,” he added. “You just want somebody to say ‘aye man whats up, you good?’ or just check on you, and you find out that your music is in every club and everybody’s vibing to it, there’s just no other comparison.”
Breezy explains that “X” represents the number of years he’s been in the game, and is a celebration of his music throughout the years.
“I wanted it to be more of acelebration [of] the 10 years I’ve been doing [this] and being blessed to be successful for this amount of time,” Brown said of the album.
