The NFL is currently changing it’s drug policy and literally as early as this evening the new policy can go into effect and would enable players currently under suspension for drug use to have their suspensions reduced. The person this benefits most is Cleveland Browns star Josh Gordon. He was suspended for this entire season after a third failed marijuana test. Under the new policy that would equate to 8 games, instead of a whole season and the Browns can definitely use him on the field. Hit the jump.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted out a short time ago confirming that Gordon will likely see his suspension reduced. Not that marijuana should be used by athletes to begin with, but there was clearly something wrong if a failed drug test for weed resulted in bigger suspensions for far more serious offenses off the field. Even though they won’t say it publicly, you can believe the Browns organization is thrilled with this new policy and how fast it may go into affect.
Teams will vote tonight and if approved it becomes active immediately and is retro-active to players currently suspended for drug use. In Gordon’s case however the team and himself still need to be careful. Someone needs to talk to this great young player and keep his mind focused moving forward in his career.
