We have all heard this before over and over like a new song on the radio. Does anyone even care at this point if we ever see Floyd Mayweather in the ring with Manny Pacquiao? I am sure some boxing fans still want to see it but it has definitely lost it’s luster with all the failed attempts back and forth to get them in the ring. According to super promoter Bob Arum, these two will finally face off next year and negotiations have already begun. Hit the jump.

Boxing promoter Bob Arum told The San Francisco Chronicle Thursday that he is “very optimistic” that a fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will happen in the first six months of 2015. He said the respective fighters’ television networks — HBO for Pacquiao and Showtime/CBS for Mayweather — have met and discussed the super fight.

“Both networks want this fight to happen,” Arum said. “All signs seem to point to the fight happening early next year.”

“There is a sell-by date, where it becomes (after that) ‘Who cares?’ It has to happen by the first six months of next year,” Arum said. “And if it happens, there should be a provision with a different percentage for the rematch. So that the winner is rewarded for winning the fight.

“I would love to see these guys fight twice next year.”

The fact that the pool of available boxers that will provide high profile opponents for these two guys barely exist is the main reason still keeping this super-fight alive. Then again how super will this fight be with both men in their late 30’s now and Pacquiao focused on so many other things outside the ring.
