Last week, we reported that both of the Steelers running backs, Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount were arrested for marijuana possession and driving under the influence. According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette the Steelers won’t suspend either player. He bases his conclusion on the plain language of the labor deal, which prohibits teams from taking matters into their own hands regarding alcohol and drug offenses.
There is no question that coach Mike Tomlin is looking out for the best interest of his football team by not suspending his top two RB options for any regular season action. It is interesting however to cite the CBA as the reason why not to act when Tomlin disciplined Santonio Holmes in 2008 for a marijuana citation.
