It truly hurts to report this. Robin Williams has been pronounced dead at the age of 63, after what’s believed to be a suicide at his Northern California home early this morning.
The beloved comedian was unconscious and not breathing when authorities arrived, and the coroner suspects suicide due to asphyxia. Famous for the classic sitcom ‘Mork & Mindy’ and films like Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji, The Bird Cage, Good Will Hunting and so many, many more, Williams struggled with cocaine and alcohol abuse in the early 80’s, but had been clean for nearly 20 years. Unfortunately his demons crept back, and he returned to rehab last month, with alcohol reportedly being the main cause.
“This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one if its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings,” his wife Susan Schneider said in a statement to the New York Times. “I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope that the focus will not be on Robin’s death but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”
