We learned of Jay Z’s mom’s new restaurant last week when her famous son and daughter-in-law attended the grand opening. Little was reported about the restaurant, but via an interview with NJ newspaper The Star Ledger, we have more details.

Gloria Carter’s new eatery, Diamondz N Da Ruff, is located in Newark, New Jersey, and is co-owned by Mama Carter along with 2 of her girlfriends. The spot is open Tuesdays through Sundays for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and it features a small stage for live music and open mic and karaoke nights. As far the cuisine, the menu is mainly American-based with food like paninis, crab cake sandwiches, salads and sliders.

“A diamond comes from coal. Once coal is pressured, it becomes beautiful,” Gloria told The Star Ledger about the name choice. “We all know struggle. We’re coming from struggle to make this a beautiful thing.” No word on why they spelled it so RIDICULOUS, though!
