People are still mourning the loss of Eric Garner also known as the “gentle giant”, who passed away after the police put him in an illegal chokehold on a New York City street. Garner’s funeral was this past Wednesday in Brooklyn but people are still paying their respects. At the “Under the Lights” League in Staten Island, a basketball player named Brian Hogan-Gary, wearing a “RIP Eric Garner” shirt, made a statement by dunking over a NYPD cop car.
Brian was cheered on by both spectators and police officers whom worked with the organizers and provided the cop car.
“People were really surprised the cops wanted to be a part of it,” said Joel Soto, one of the league’s founders.
“It definitely brought down a little of the tension between police and the community.”
