In very sad and oddly strange news, today around 2:51pm Pacific time at famed Venice Beach in California, a lightening bolt struck sending currents of electricity through the waters, causing beach goers to flee frantically to safety. The unfortunate incident resulted in one death, and over a dozen injured at the scene. Get details and see video of terrifying scene inside.
The incident resulted in the death of a 20’s something surfer. Authorities are currently unsure whether it was the lightening bolt, or too much water in his lungs(being that they had to fish him out of water), that ultimately killed the young man.
CNN reports…..
“At least 13 patients — all of whom were either in or near the water, according to Main — were assessed on the scene, and of those, seven adults and one teenager were transported to local hospitals.
One patient had to be pulled from the water, but it was not immediately clear if it was the man who later died.
Another patient transported to the hospital was listed in serious condition Sunday afternoon, while the remaining six were listed as fair.
The National Weather Service in Los Angeles tweeted at around the time of the strike that “cloud to ground lightning” had been reported in nearby Marina Del Rey and at the Los Angeles International Airport. “Stay indoors if you hear thunder until it passes,” the Weather Service tweeted.”
Crazy. Our prayers and condolences go out to the family that lost a life, and to those that were injured in the terrifying ordeal.
