Police are on the haunt for two carjackers who stole an SUV and then drove it straight through a fruit stand where a family was trying to make charitable profit for their church, resulting in the killing of three young children. Find out the whole story after the jump!
According to The Associated Press the car thieves held the owner at gun point and forced her to get in the back seat of her Toyota 4Runner. After spinning out of control just about a mile away from the initial carjacking, the vehicle collided with a fruit stand where a group of church goers were working to raise money. The profits were for a church effort to turn a corner lot into a playground, according to Sakina Brown, granddaughter to one of the elderly women who was hit in the accident.
The crash resulted in the hospitalization of Brown’s 65 year old grandmother. Tragically, three young children, of the ages 7, 10 and 15, were killed after the collision. The mother of the three children is also being hospitalized and is currently in critical condition, along with the 45 year old real estate agent that the car belonged to.
The two suspects fled the scene on foot after crashing the vehicle on Friday morning and police are on their trail. The reward for suspects’ arrest has now reached $110,000 thanks to donations from the city and the Fraternal Order of Police. Police are also looking into getting any surveillance videos from nearby businesses that could help lead to the capture of the carjackers.
“There are no words to describe how I feel right now,” said police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, “but we do need to find these two guys.”
