San Francisco running back Kendall Hunter’s 2014 season is over after he tore the ACL in his right knee Friday, the team confirmed Saturday.
via CBS Sports:
Hunter, who was entering the final year of his rookie deal, has served as Frank Gore’s backup since coming into the league in 2011. Now that role will fall to LaMichael James, Jewel Hampton, rookie Carlos Hyde and Marcus Lattimore, who is currently on the non-injury football list.
According to MercuryNews.com’s Can Inman, Hunter was injured while catching a swing pass from backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert during 7-on-7 drills.
In three seasons, Hunter has rushed for 1,202 yards on 262 carries and scored seven touchdowns. Last season, he had a career-low 358 rushing yards.
