Ukraine is accusing rebels of destroying evidence around the crash site of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17. Read more on the story below!
Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 was struck by a missile in an area of Ukraine, which is occupied by rebels. The missile killed all 298 people on board. It is still unclear as to who fired the rocket. What is being called as “the biggest crime scene in the world” is heavily armed by pro-Russian rebels who are guarding the Ukrainian field. Ukraine is accusing Russia and the separatists of destroying evidence as they are blocking outside investigators from the field. Rescue workers and others have to pass checkpoints in order to get to the site. The rebels have denied the accusations. Ukraine and Russia are blaming each other for the devastating rocket launch.
Spokesman Michael Bociurkiw says, “We have to be very careful with our movements because of all the security…we are unarmed civilians, so we are not in a position to argue with people with heavy arms.” Malaysia’s government is “deeply concerned” the area had not been secured. Another spokesperson stated, “Since the plane went down, the remains of 298 people lie uncovered; citizens of 11 nations, none of whom are involved in the conflicts in eastern Ukraine, cannot be laid to rest….we need to retrieve the human remains as fast as we can.” Lim Guan Eng, Malaysian opposition lawmaker says the incident is “premeditated murder” and that “no mercy” should be shown to anyone responsible.
