During Uruguay’s big game against Italy in Group Play of the World Cup, Luis Suarez was accused of biting Giorgio Chiellini.  It was the third time Suarez was accused of the despicable act and FIFA didn’t take it lightly.  Suarez is suspended for nine games and banned from all soccer-related activity for four months.  Despite video evidence showing him taking a bite out of Chiellini, Suarez maintains his innocence and says he just lost his balance.

Luis Suarez told FIFA’s disciplinary panel that he did not deliberately bite Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.

The Uruguay striker wrote in Spanish that “in no way it happened how you have described, as a bite or intent to bite.”

Suarez wrote: “After the impact… I lost my balance, making my body unstable and falling on top of my opponent. At that moment I hit my face against the player, leaving a small bruise on my cheek and a strong pain in my teeth.”

But the seven-man panel ruled that the bite was “deliberate, intentional and without provocation.”
