Yuan Mexia is from eastern China, and in their culture, cockroaches are popular to use in Chinese medicine. She says that the nasty little insects are her “children, my babies” and she actually pampers them by giving them a warm stove so they can rest and sugary treats. EW!
I guess she has to be that nice because she kills them off by drowning them in water and drying them in the sun. Then Mexia packs them and sells the cockroaches to pharmaceutical companies for about $100 a kilo. Who knew killing cockroaches was a business?
