Yaya DaCosta will play legendary singer Whitney Houston in Angela Bassett’s directorial debut of the late singers biopic tentatively titled “Whitney Houston” for Lifetime.
In the Lifetime movie, DaCosta will play Houston as she deals with her volatile relationship with Bobby Brown and her early success in the music industry.
If you recognize DaCosta, it’s because she made her made her small-screen debut on America’s Next Top Model Cycle 3, but has since appeared in “All My Children,” Ugly Betty,” House,” “The Kid Are Alright” and “Lee Daniels’ The Butler.”
At the time the film was announced Basset said in a statement, “I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story. Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I’m beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world.”
