Calvin “Klein” Baconte, whom you might remember if you think back to The Black Album where Jay-Z recounts the rush of almost getting arrested with Klein in the song “Allure” saying “I never felt more alive than riding shotgun, in Klein’s green 5, until the cops pulled guns,” is now backing Jay’s claim on “Dead Presidents II” where he says he was “still spending money from ’88.” Check out what Jay’s former accomplice had to say after the jump.
In “Dead Presidents II”, off his 1996 release, Reasonable Doubt, Jay boasts on the success of his hustling days spitting, “I dabbled in crazy weight without rap, I was crazy straight. Partna, I’m still spendin money from 88.”
Now, someone who knew Jay back in the ’80s and even took the fall for Hov when the two got caught up in some legal trouble after a fight at a party in Maryland went a little over board causing the two to get charged with attempted murder, is saying Jay was not fronting when he said that.
“Would you doubt him? I wouldn’t doubt him. I don’ t know how many shoe boxes he got stacked up. I know how many I had stacked up. If he said it, I believe it. You have to kind of look at his history. How many times have you caught him in a lie? You have to give him the benefit of the doubt,” Klein told AllHipHop.
Looks like Jay really was doing some major slanging back in the day, especially if after 8 years he still had some drug money to burning holes in his pockets.
