A Georgia police officer was shot and killed early Saturday morning after a fight broke out at a Griffin Waffle House, police said.
Kevin Jordan, 43, was working an off-duty job as a security guard at the restaurant when he asked three rowdy diners — two men and a woman — to leave around 2:30 a.m.
Reports show the three were intoxicated, Mike Richardson, of the Griffin Police Department, told WSB-TV.
Jordan, a four-year police veteran and father of seven, got the group into the parking lot. That’s when the woman, 28-year-old Chantell Mixon, began fighting with the uniformed officer.
Jordan wrestled Mixon to the ground and tried to handcuff. During the struggle, one of the men, 30-year-old Michael Bowman, shot the officer in the back, police said.
Jordan’s brother was waiting nearby to meet up with 43-year-old cop. When he saw the shooting, the brother, a civilian with a gun permit, shot Bowman, police said.
