Now doesn’t that just melt your heart? Jeff Mortimer, a 19 year old rapper from West Palm Beach, Florida who goes by the stage name Young Jay, was diagnosed with a rare form of muscle cancer called spindle cell sarcoma when he was just 16 years old. Now 3 years later, having endured radiation therapy and chemo, he is battling a relapse. But has that stopped him in the slightest? No, Young Jay is still following his dreams and just signed a deal last week with Sony. Talk about an inspiration.
On top of making his own dreams come true, Young Jay has even gone above and beyond to aid others in taking that step towards their own dreams. Jay has helped spearhead a program at the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital which encourages children to create music that inspires them.
“I don’t worry about what I’m going through,” said Young Jay. “When I see what people really go through, it made me want to work harder to push forward.”
Mortimer is continuing his battle with cancer but while he remains in treatment doctors have switched his intravenous chemotherapy to a pill form so that he will be able to tour and be more mobile.
“When doors are open you have to take them, because you never know when you’re going to see them again,” he told ABC News.
Now, what’s your excuse again for letting your dreams pass you by?
