One second can ruin a lifetime. University of Oklahoma star basketball player Isaiah Cousins is thankful today that his future isn’t ruined. Cousins, who is from Mount Vernon, NY, just outside of New York City, was hit by a stray bullet during a gang shooting. He is home for the summer and was just in the wrong place at the wrong time when shots started going off. He was hit in the back of the shoulder but luckily will not require any surgery or have any long term affects. Hit the jump.

His coach Lon Kruger has already spoken to him.

“I’ve spoken to Isaiah and he is doing well,” Kruger said in the statement. “It truly was a matter of him being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was simply talking to some friends when an outsider fired a shot. Everyone we’ve spoken to said they don’t believe anyone in his group was a target. The bullet struck him in the back of the shoulder and doctors are not planning surgery. He should be healed in a few weeks and begin summer activities with the rest of the team in June. We’re very thankful it wasn’t worse than it was.”

Cousins is very lucky cause we all know it could of been that much worse. Numerous reports say neither he nor the people he was with were the intended targets of the bullet.

Hopefully he will be back on the court soon like his coach said.

Cousins averaged about 12 points and 5 rebounds last season. I saw him play a few times in high school and the boy can seriously ball! Mount Vernon high school is home to some of the best high school basketball players in the tri-state year after year.
