It’s clear that something was off with Deron Williams this past season. He suffered an ankle injury during preseason but the Nets tried to keep it hush hush and made it seem like no big deal. Throughout the season however Williams suffered lingering pain in both ankles, often receiving cortisone shots to make it through games. Now it is believed Williams will have to undergo double surgery.

Deron Williams has more than $60 million coming his way over the next three seasons, and he’d like to earn it. [Williams] will underwent an MRI on both of his ankles on Friday, and the Brooklyn Nets point guard believes surgery may be a possibility. … Williams has been hindered by lingering ankle injuries for the past two seasons. He received multiple cortisone shots and platelet-rich plasma injections to ease the pain, but the problem hasn’t gone away. “I feel like I’ve kind of let people down, so I don’t like feeling like that,” Williams said. “I take my job seriously, I work hard in the offseason, I work hard every day. It’s just real frustrating not to be able to play how I’m capable of playing.” This offseason, Williams is focused on getting healthy and returning to All-Star form.
There’s also reports that Williams requested a trade, reports he’s denied. There were also reports that the Nets put him on the trading block, that hasn’t been confirmed either. Williams was once considered one of the best point guards in the league but lingering issues with his ankle has definitely dropped his stock.
