Miata Phelan, 24, stabbed and killed Larry Martin, the father of her unborn child, inside their Chicago apartment, all because he didn’t buy her a gift from the mall.
Witnesses say Miata said this to Larry while standing over his bleeding body , “This is what you get for messing with me. I hope you die…” The day Larry was stabbed, the couple went on a family trip to the mall. Larry bought gifts for his 8 year old son and his 25 year old cousin who were both with them at the mall, but not for Miata. Miata called Larry “selfish” for not buying her anything. She began attacking him on the way home in the car almost causing a car accident. Larry then went to go run an errand and Miata kicked and scratched him before driving off with the car. Larry, his cousin, and his son had to walk back home.
When they returned Miata locked the three out of the house. When she opened the door to let Larry in, after he was begging to be let inside, she stabbed him while his son was watching. His last words to his son were, “I’m gonna die, but I love you.” Larry’s cousin tried to put pressure on his wound but he collapsed and was pronounced dead at the Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. Miata’s sister says that Larry was a physically abusive boyfriend. Her bail is set at $1 million.
