The New York Giants expect Eli Manning to be fully healed from his ankle surgery before training camp gets underway. Still, he will miss most, or even all, of their spring workouts while recovering. That means the Giants need to find some veteran help at quarterback to help bridge the gap while Manning gets right.
Among the options are Josh Freeman and Matt Flynn.
“Freeman, the former Bucs starting quarterback who was traded to the Vikings last year, may work out for the Giants early next week, a source confirmed, though nothing official has been set up yet,” wrote Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.
“And the Daily News has learned the Giants have also reached out to Flynn — who spent the end of last season in Green Bay where he worked with former Packers quarterbacks coach and new Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo — and may schedule a workout with him as well.”
The fact that the Giants are installing a new offensive system under McAdoo without having their starting quarterback in the mix is less than ideal, to say the least. Having a decent veteran to hold down the fort while they get up to speed would at least help, though.
