A teenager’s boredom has resulted in the death of NY police officer, David Guerra. Guerra passed away at 6:50 a.m. at Montefiore Medical Center due to a injuries sustained in a Coney Island building fire. Partner, officer Rosa Rodriguez remains in critical condition. Marcell Dockery, 16, told detectives that he had set the fire because he was, “bored.” He was arrested Monday on charges that includes arson and two counts of assault. Due to the officer’s death, more charges will likely be set.
Mayor de Blasio speaks on Guerra’s death:
“He knew there was a fire in a public housing development on the 13th floor. He went selflessly towards the flame, selflessly towards those who are in danger, no matter what the risk to him,” Mr. de Blasio said. “It’s something that our police officers do every day. It’s something our first responders do every day. It is something we need to appreciate every day.”
Guerra is survived by his wife, Cathy, and their four children: Kathleen, 20; Jonathan, 17; Alyssa, 14; and Zachary, 7. Condolences going out.
