Two NYPD officers were critically injerured today after reporting to a fire in Coney Island. According to ABC news Officer Rosa Rodriguez, 36, and Officer Dennis Guerra, 38, was injured after taking the elevator to the 13th floor of the apartment building and they became overwhelmed with smoke. Firefighters later located both officers unconscious and unresponsive on the floor of the hall of the 13th floor. The officers were brought back down the elevator and were treated outside the building.
Both officers were resuscitated but are currently in critical condition
oth officers remain in critical condition in the ICU, where they are being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning and smoke inhalation.
The fire is being investigated as ‘suspicious’. Fire officials say the blaze was under control within an hour.
