While most of the focus in the NBA is on the teams’ final playoff push, last night was also historical for a number of reasons.
– Though the Oklahoma City Thunder were defeated 111-107 by the Houston Rockets, Kevin Durant dropped 28 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. It was Durant’s 40th consecutive game with 25 or more points. The streak tied Michael Jordan’s record as the longest in the past 50 years. Durant has the chance to pass Jordan on Sunday when the Thunder play the Phoenix Suns.
– Dirk Nowitzki also made history last night by passing Dominique Wilkins on the all-time scoring list. Nowitzki was just 18 points away from passing Wilkins and finished with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists in the Mavericks 107-95 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. Nowitzki now holds the 11th spot on the all-time scoring list pushing Wilkins to 12th.
– Lebron James may have been upset about the Miami Heat’s loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves but he did have one reason to throw on his Happy hat. James finished with 34 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists in the Heat’s double-overtime loss. The big numbers however made him the youngest player to reach 23,000 career points at 29 years and 95 days old passing Kobe Bryant who did it at 30 years and 171 days old.
