Yesterday’s unveiling of Kimye’s ‘Vogue’cover for the magazine’s April issue sparked an outflow of chatter amongst media and social media alike, and yet, didn’t come without it’s backlash.
So, what was the notorious Vogue editor, Anna Wintour, thinking by FINALLY putting Kim Kardashian, along-side fiance Kanye West, on the cover? She responded in a characteristically icy Editor’s Letter, insisting it was she — and not a pushy West – who made the final decision.
In the Letter, she writes:
“Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment,” she wrote, “who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it.”
“I think we can all agree on the fact,” Wintour continued, “that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T. (Or perhaps that should be to a K?)”
On Kanye continuously insisting Kim should be on the cover:
“My opinion is that it is both charming and touching, and it was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it; you may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancée on Vogue‘s cover. He did nothing of the sort.”
I’m sure Kanye mentioning Anna Wintour in a song, rubbing elbows with the fashion world elites, and the many “lunches” he and Kim had with Editor didn’t have any influence on her decision, right?
And we all remember Kanye publicly campaigning for Kim to be on the cover. Radar Online notes, that in October 2013, Kanye told Ryan Seacrest, “There’s no way Kim Kardashian shouldn’t be on the cover of Vogue. She’s like the most intriguing woman right now. … and collectively we’re the most influential with clothing.”
What do you think of her reason for putting Kimye on the cover? Do you agree with Anna Wintour? Why or why not? Speak on it!
