Allen Iverson will go down as one of the most iconic and legendary players in basketball. Aside from his natural talent, Iverson changed the landscape of the game. His tattoos, braids, style of clothing; Iverson brought hip-hop into the NBA and forever changed the culture. On Saturday the Philadelphia 76ers retired his #3 jersey in a touching ceremony.
An emotional but extremely grateful Iverson took to the podium and gave a speech. “I was one of those kids that wanted to be like Mike, so I thank him for making me want to play basketball,” Iverson said. He thanked several people, many of which received boos from the rowdy Philly crowd but he remained gracious. “You’ll have to show me the fool that says ‘dreams don’t come true,’ because they do.”
He receieved several gifts from the Sixers including a pound-for-pound championship belt and a customized boat.
