Forbes released an article tabulating how Michael Jordan made a whopping $90 million in 2013.  As you probably guessed, majority was from his popular sneaker sales.  While reading the article however I noticed they mentioned an interesting tidbit; there was only one athlete who made more than Jordan last year and the answer probably won’t surprise you either.

Jordan made an estimated $90 million last year thanks to the rich partnership he enjoys with Nike. His 2013 earnings eclipsed those of all other retired or current athletes save boxer Floyd Mayweather. It marked Jordan’s biggest earnings year yet in a career paved with monster paydays, which peaked in Jordan’s last season with the Bulls (1997-98) at $80 million.

It didn’t go into details on exactly how much Mayweather made but from other articles I read he made between $80 to $100 million just off the fight with Canelo Alvarez.  In addition to his record making $41.5 million purse for the fight, Mayweather also made money off record breaking PPV sales.  Those calculations are just off one fight, so Mayweather clearly eclipsed Jordan if you factor in other ventures and residual money.  Clearly they call him Floyd “Money” Mayweather for a reason.
