Wednesday night, flanked by emotionally shaken family members, his brother Abner Davis announced that Nicolas, 24, died shortly after 5 p.m.
He shared the news outside the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital where family and friends of the former safety have been gathered since learning of Tuesday’s accident.

Early Tuesday morning, his gray Lexus crashed into the back of a truck and became wedged under the vehicle on the MacArthur Causeway. Later that day police said it was too early to determine whether alcohol or speed were factors in the crash.
“Those could be contributing factors. It’s still part of the investigation,” Miami Beach detective Vivian Hernandez told the Sun Sentinel on Tuesday. “They took measurements and that will take a little bit of time.”
