Bad news for Dan Marino and Shannon Sharpe today. They’ve been dropped by CBS. CBS has picked up Tony Gonzalez, which means he’s definitely not returning to the Falcons in 2014.

The retiring Gonzalez, who left open the possibility of playing again in a recent ESPN The Magazine story, closed the door on such talk by joining CBS Sports as an NFL analyst, the network announced Tuesday.
The future Hall of Fame tight end will be part of CBS’ pregame show, “The NFL Today,” and will contribute across multiple CBS platforms including “Inside the NFL” on Showtime and CBS Sports’ Sunday pregame show, “That Other Pregame Show.”
…Gonzalez will join James Brown, Bill Cowher and Boomer Esiason on “The NFL Today.” Dan Marino and Shannon Sharpe will no longer be on the show.

Shannon Sharpe tells TMZ Sports … he’s bummed out after getting the news that he’s out at “The NFL Today” pregame show at CBS … but says, “I’m grateful I had ten great years.”
“Things happen,” Sharpe says … “They made the best decision for them and now I have to make the best decision for me.”
Sharpe is adamant he has “no hard feelings” toward CBS — adding, “They’ve been great to me.”
…So, what’s next for Shannon? He’s still trying to evaluate his options, but it’s clear you haven’t heard the last from the Hall of Fame tight end.
