In the case of the fatal shooting of 17 year old Jordan Davis, over loud music, Micheal Dunn has been convicted of attempted murder.
47 year old Michael Dunn has been convicted of attempted murder in the trial of the tragic murder, of 17 year old Jordan Davis. Jurors could not agree on the highest charge of first degree murder after a 30 hour deliberation and found him guilty instead, of “three counts of attempted second-degree murder and a count of firing into an occupied car.”
The altercation began in 2012, when Dunn had been bothered by the loud music playing in a car packed with African American males, outside of a Jacksonville, FLorida, store, to which he described to his fiancé as ‘thug music’. After an argument, Dunn opened fire upon the full car, resulting in the tragic death of Jordan Davis.
After the verdict was read, Dunn “showed no emotion”, the Davis’ parents left the court room heart broken and emotionally distraught. Dunn stated that he opened 10 rounds, 9 landing in the vehicle, after he “feared for his life” and saw “danger present”.
This trial is the latest raise of awareness on the case of ‘self defense’ and race controversy, after the 2013 Trayvon Martin Trial, allowed George Zimmerman to walkaway from murdering a young, black, teen. On the pretense that he also ‘feared for his life”, Zimmerman was saved by the stand your ground law, causing for many to think who is really receiving the justice in these cases?
