Adidas unveiled its 2014 FIFA World Cup away uniforms for Spain, Germany, Argentina (#1, #2 and #3 in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings, respectively), Russia and Mexico. Like each country’s home uniforms that were unveiled in October/November, the design of the uniforms are inspired by the history or culture of each country.

From a design perspective, the jerseys stand out with country-inspired designs:

  • ·         Spain: The defending World Cup champion’s away kit features a never been seen color combination for Spain. The black and neon design was inspired by meaningful features of the cheerful, alive, bustling, social and colorful Spanish culture.
  • ·         Germany: The German national team’s away kit incorporates fine lines into the jersey’s horizontal red stripes. The lines symbolize team spirit and teamwork on the field while the jersey overall represents the lifestyle, openness and unconventional attitude of fashion-conscious young people in Germany.
  • ·         Argentina: The design combines the tones of blue with the gold from the crest. The gold color that is found throughout the jersey enhances its identity and commemorates the glory of soccer in the country.
  • ·         Russia: Inspired by the achievements of Russian space exploration, the Russian away kit looks like a light blue semicircle, the same perspective seen by Yuri Gagarin when he became the first man in space in 1961.
  • ·         Mexico: Mexico’s new red and black away kit serves as a reinterpretation of color combinations used from the 1930 World Cup Uruguay through the 1958 World Cup Sweden. The color of the jersey also pays homage to the passion, union and combative spirit reflected in the nation’s flag.
