There was a lot of controversy over Blake Griffin’s 2011 Slam Dunk Contest win. He had a lot of theatrics including a choir and jumped over a car (a Kia, the car company he’s paid to endorse). People discounted it because he jumped over the hood and not the top of the car. Well regardless of what you think, that’s all we’re going to see from Griffin because the high flying Lob City member says he’ll never do the contest again.
Arash Markazi of ESPN Los Angeles:
“I wouldn’t say it was a mistake [in 2011] because it was a great experience, but it’s something I would never do again,” said Griffin, who won the dunk contest that year.
“For me, All-Star Weekend is about getting a chance to rest as much as anything. With the All-Star Game alone you still have obligations almost all day Friday and you have some kind of an event Friday night and Saturday’s practice and appearances. Saturday night for me now has become the time where I hang out with my family and hang out with my friends and take it easy.”
The dunk contest has faltered in recent years but this year is expected to be a good one with Paul George and John Wall entering the ring. We’ll see what happens.
