Such a shame. Four workers from Independent Group Home Living in Hampton Bay have been arrested, each charged with one felony count of endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person. Turns out that the workers ran a “disabled fight club,” where they would, unfortunately, put the handicapped adults against one another for their own entertainment.
The employees involved were: 28-year-old Erin McHenry, 27-year-old Justin McDonald, 58-year-old Stephen Komara, and 44-year-old Rosemary Vanni. They were a arrested shortly after sending a video of one of the fights via email to a friend. That friend immediately forwarded the message to state’s Justice Center hotline.
All have since been fired.
According to Daily Mail:
The men encouraged to fight are patients at Independent Group Home Living, in Hampton Bays, and are in their 50s, but have the mental capacity of preschool-aged-children.
They encouraged them to strike each other – one knocking over the other in the wheelchair – and then rewarding them with praise.
One of the two men grabbed the other by his neck and threw him to the ground while sitting in his wheelchair before ‘violently’ stomping his head and neck while being egged on by McHenry.
One father of a child that went to the home spoke in court, saying “I don’t know what the world is coming to – but the fact that they did that, and thought it was funny? It wouldn’t be so funny if they were the ones on the other end of the fist.”
If convicted, they’re all going to be facing jail time. And they’ll DEFINITELY have some fighting to do behind those walls when they get there.
