With a total of 541 drug deaths in 2010, 630 in 2011 and 730 in 2012, Brooklyn has the highest number of fatal drug overdoses amongst the five boroughs.
It’s the highest populated city, with 2.5 million residents, and has had a 84 percent spike in heroin-related overdoses. The same drug that appears to have killed actor Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Unfortunately, a similar trend has sparked in The Bronx and Staten Island, where cocaine, heroin, methadone, benzodiazepines, opioids have killed hundreds.
The deadly drug of choice has more become popular in several years due to tougher drug laws against prescription opioids and the high cost of pain pills on the black market.
