It appears that boxing fans will never drop their quest for a Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao fight. Pacquiao was knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez but after a great victory over Brandon Rios and a “boring” victory for Mayweather over Cotto, fans are clamoring once again for the two boxers to enter the ring. Arranging the fight has had several different problems from money splits, drug testing and insiders believing Mayweather will never fight a Bob Arum fighter. Floyd Mayweather gave an interview and gave his opinion on the matter.
Floyd starts by saying he deserved a bigger piece of the pie. The original dispute was that Pacquiao wanted a 50/50 split but Floyd believed he was the bigger and better fighter, deserving a larger portion of the split. Pacquiao reportedly relented and agreed to a 55/45 split but the fight still never happened.
Floyd went on to say they constantly build fighters up to beat him and no one does. He says he’s not ducking and dodging anyone and if “Pacquiao want it he can get it”. “Mayweather is the face of boxing, all roads lead to Floyd Mayweather”, he said.
He also said all these fighters say they fight for legacy, he’s no longer in that category. As an established fighter, “I’m in the check cashing business”, he said. Floyd says he dominates fighters. “When my career is over I have a job as a commentator and a promoter.”
He also said they asked Pacquiao three times if he wants to fight Floyd Mayweather. Mayweather claims they don’t give him the same respect. Floyd says he’s in a no win situation. “If I win they’ll say ‘you supposed to beat him’, if I outbox him they gonna say ‘it was a boring fight’, if I knock him out, ‘you supposed to knock him out, he been knocked out before’.”
