Via Associated Press:
A misdemeanor assault charge against Cincinnati boxer and former World Boxing Association welterweight champion Adrien Broner has been dismissed.
Court records show the charge against 24-year-old Adrien Broner was dismissed Wednesday, the day he was scheduled for trial in Hamilton County Municipal Court in southwest Ohio. Broner’s attorney says the man who accused Broner of punching him in the face in May 2012 did not show up for the trial.
Defense attorney William Welsh also says the alleged assault never took place.
The city prosecutor’s office did not immediately return a call for comment Thursday.
Broner held the WBA welterweight championship title until Saturday, when he lost a bout to Marcos Maidana in San Antonio. He lost on a unanimous decision after Maidana knocked him out twice.
