Actually This has been coming for sometime, but now that thy have announced that it’s coming this week a good bit of people are quite upset, so let’s see how we can help!
Of course Auto-Play on ads is not something people want, well maybe the advertisers, although they will allegedly play without sound unless you click on the them:
It’s also good that they will only play via WiFi as to not drain your data plain, but still who needs the hassle of these killing your batter, or accidentally clicking to go into the video.
So let’s get to how to have it Not play, auto that is, and for desktops, which is key for those browsing at work when supposed to BE working:
Right now the video is flash based(thank god it’s not HTML5 this time), so we can find a flash blocker, for desktop on safari; ClickToFlash(which is key because Safari has HTML5 built in. Chrome/firefox has FlashBlock.
On Mobile it’s kinda simple, put your phone on silent for the just in case. They(Facebook) are working to make the video HTML5, and we will have to cross that bridge when we get to it! Or you can just use face book’s ad blocker….keep scrolling past 0_o
