Derrick Rose suffered a torn meniscus and after undergoing surgery he will be out for the rest of the season. With the Chicago Bulls losing their star player yet again, many assume they will forego playoff hopes. With that said Bulls will likely trade away viable assets and begin to go through the rebuilding process. That’s something Derrick Rose reportedly doesn’t want to go through.
via NY Daily News:
Rose has told several confidantes that he is worried that the Bulls will start to let the team hit the skids by allowing key players to leave via free agency, forcing him to go through a rebuilding program that he wants no part of.
“Derrick is worried that the Bulls are going to lose what they have,” said a league source. “He doesn’t want to go through rebuilding.”
Carlos Boozer has one more season to go on his contract and the Bulls aren’t expected to bring him back. How they would proceed if those major losses really do happen is anyone’s guess.
But when you see how the Bulls have let key bench players like Kyle Korver, Marco Belinelli and Nate Robinson walk in recent offseasons, and not have replaced them with equal talent, Rose has every right to be worried about the direction of his team.
I’m sure the Bulls want to keep their star player happy but at the same time they also have to do what’s best for the team as a whole. As stated in the report, the Bulls haven’t shied away from letting players go in the past so it’s anticipated that they will do so again. How Rose will react this time is yet to be seen but it definitely something that will be watched closely.
