A 16 year old was able to get off with just probation after killing 4 while driving drunk… His defense? suffering from wealth, hit the jump for more.
Ethan Couch a 16 year old from from fort worth Texas, was able to get off with 10 years of probation, for the killing of 4 during his drunk driving crash. His defense seems to be that he was so rich he felt he was above any repercussions:
Prosecutors asked that Couch serve 20 years in prison. His blood alcohol level was .24, three times the legal limit for an adult. Psychologist G. Dick Miller testified for the defense that Couch suffered from “affluenza,” a condition in which “his family felt that wealth bought privilege and there was no rational link between behavior and consequences,” KHOU reported.
This is not the first time he’s dipped into trouble. He was found another time, in the back of a car, with a naked 14 year old, and of course the teen was able to get off without any repercussions from law enforcement or parents.
Along with his probation, Couch will be sent to a private counseling center costing $450,000, and funded by his father.
