A 23 year old man was killed outside of his Texas college by a campus police officer on Friday night. Robert Cameron Redus, a senior at the University of the Incarnate Word, was pulled over at 2 a.m. for allegedly driving erratically. The student, who was on the dean’s list for both 2012 and 2013, allegedly got into an altercation with a campus police officer, Chris Carter, and shots were fired after he resisted arrest. Student Mohammad Haidarasl, who lives on the school’s campus, reported that the officer warned Redus that he would shoot. Upon hearing the warning, Redus is reported to have said, “Oh you’re gonna shoot me?”, before being fatally wounded. Haidarasl said that he heard six shots fired after the sarcastic comment. Carter has been put on paid administrative leave. It is reported that the campus police officer has had more than 9 jobs during his career, rarely holding one for more than a year.
The shooting is still under investigation.
SMH. Prayers to the Redus family. This story seems very suspicious to me! How does an ideal student, pulled over “for driving erratically”, get killed after 6 shots being fired after him? The campus police officer seems to have job or behavior issues, considering he can’t keep one position for a prolonged period. What are your thoughts?
