As expected the Houston Texans fired head coach Gary Kubiak. The team lost 11 games in a row and fell way below expectations as many predicted a great season for them. Wade Phillips has been named the interim coach until the team finds a replacement. An ESPN report has been released with names of possible candidates and a couple names on there are pretty interesting.
Though ESPN maintains that Gruden is committed to remaining apart of the Monday Night Football cast, Gruden has been vocal about his desire to return to coaching.
The list also includes Lovie Smith who has surprisingly remained unemployed after being fired by the Chicago Bears.
The most surprising name on the list however is Mike Shanahan. If Clayton thinks Texans owner Bob McNair will be interviewing Shanahan, he also must think Dan Snyder will be firing Shanahan. The Redskins have also had a pretty disappointing season at 3-9 and the bottom of the NFC East. There’s also been multiple reports of issues between star quarterback Robert Griffin III and Shanahan.
“We would like someone who has had head coaching experience, but has also had NFL experience,” McNair said. “It’s a combination of those two things would be the ideal situation and there are people who meet those conditions.”
I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
