Mayor Bloomberg and Dennis Walcott, Schools Chancellor made the announcement. The Boys and Girls High School campus [oldest public high school in Brooklyn – Bed-Stuy], was visited by Nelson Mandela in 1990, shortly after his 27yr release in a South African prison, and is set to open in September 2014.
“President Mandela once said ‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.’,” Mayor Bloomberg mentioned as he gave the news. “[This reminds us of] our mandate as public servants is to provide our children with the weapons they need for a successful future and help us build a City of inclusion and opportunity that Madiba could be proud of,” he continues.
This only shows the major impact that Mandela had on the world. Colossal move for the major!
